Building a unified, recognizable brand that feels like home for all congregants, while bridging modernity and tradition.
The Challenge: Unifying Two Churches into One Brand
One Creation Church was formed by the merging of two individual churches during the pandemic, with a focus on building a united, multicultural community. The challenge was to create a new website and branding that reflected this unity without favoring either of the original churches. The goal was to be familiar enough for congregants to feel at home, while also establishing a distinct identity that represented the new, combined church body.
Our Strategy: Crafting a Balanced and Inclusive Identity
I recommended a complete rebrand, which led to the development of a new logo by Julia Allen and a refreshed name for the church. Once the logo was finalized, I began building a brand expansion and guidelines system to help the church adapt its existing communications to the new identity.
We launched with an "under construction" page that included all essential Sunday service information, along with a digital bulletin for easy access. Meanwhile, I worked on the website's backend using Squarespace, carefully crafting a design system that blended modernity with classic elements. The pairing of serif and sans-serif fonts provided a balance that felt both familiar and contemporary, ensuring accessibility for their older audience while incorporating modern techniques to attract younger visitors.
Once the initial design phase was complete, using accessible stock photography, we transitioned into a custom photo shoot. This ensured that the website authentically showcased what visitors could expect during a service, making the churchโs mission of inclusivity and community crystal clear.
